Kenneth Stanley and Joel Lehman, authors of the influential book ‘Why Greatness Cannot Be Planned’, visited Japan to celebrate the publication of the Japanese edition ‘目標という幻想’. The talk event was held at the International Design Liaison Center in Tokyo, with moderator Madoka Sawa (former Microsoft Japan Executive Officer).
The Japanese edition, supervised by ALI Executive Director Mizuki Oka with commentary by Ken Suzuki, explores how open-ended exploration without rigid goals can lead to breakthrough discoveries. This philosophy has significantly influenced OpenAI’s approach to AI development.
The event was co-hosted by the Artificial Life Institute, Chiba Institute of Technology, and BNN.
